Rammstein: Banned in Germany

Here’s one to file under “saw this coming a mile away”: Rammstein’s new album, Liebe ist für alle da, has been banned from display in Germany. That means that Europe’s no. 2 most popular album (note to Europe: WTF?) can only be sold “under the counter” — you know, like cough syrup and porno mags. Germany’s Office for the Examination of Media Harmful for Young People (you think that’s wordy, but in Deutsch it’s probably all one über-noun) has also ruled that the band may not play one of the record’s tracks,  “Ich tu dir weh (I Want to Hurt You)” live. The Guardian reports that the ban — which also prevents Rammstein from advertising or selling Liebe ist für alle da to fans under 18 — takes effect tomorrow. So, the big question is, how many hundreds of thousands of albums will the band sell today?

Of course, if the ban applies to the release’s standard version, I imagine it will be mighty hard to get one’s hands on the pink dildo-laden box set Rammstein has been making noise about. The band, for its part, has taken to Facebook to reminds its fans to “take proof of your age with you when you go to [buy the album].” You know, unless you’re 15, like most of the group’s followers… in which case, can I recommend paying off a wino to purchase it for you? Hey, it always worked with beer…

    From the above I take it your not a fan. For me Rammstein are the best band around and always try to push the boundaries. To ban the sale of this is ridiculous. Hasn’t Germany just celebrated 20 years since the falling of the wall, isnt this ban just another type of wall.
    To ban Ich tu dir weh from being performed live is ridiculous, its the best tract on the album imo. and sounds awesome live.

    One thing I can agree with Europeans on is their music taste. American music has sucked since Kurt Cobain kicked off. If you don’t care for Rammstein, go watch American Idol, thats where the “real talent” is. PLEASE!!!!!!
