This Weekend In Philly: Philadelphia Slick Vs Black Dice

Posted on July 18, 2008

phillyslick.jpgAnother hometown live-band affair, Philadelphia Slick actually deliver jazz-influence funk-tinged hip hop with horns that isn't completely embarrassing. Their freshman release, Culture Industry might end up being the low-rent joint in an illustrious career, or these Drexel kids might disappear without a peep. Either way, this is your chance to check them at North Star Bar live tonight. Fans of Herbaliser may be annoyed that Jessica Darling spread her adult-contemporary muzak stank all over their newest Same As It Never Was. (Where was Jean Grae when you needed her?) Check out a clip of them performing from World Cafe Live after the jump.

Or if famously antagonistic gone shroomy (maybe they'd want to mess you up, but, dude, it is practically impossible to land a punch on shrooms) is what you want, NYC's Black Dice will be representing at the First Unitarian Church Saturday night. Locals War On Drugs are opening.

And that's pretty much it this weekend. What, two shows isn't enough for you? The Eagles are playing in Atlantic City.

Glad we're not completely embarrassing the genre - we do our best :)

Anyway, not many of us are from Drexel - more from Temple - but Big 5 is Big 5 right?
