Sweet Dreams Are Made of Annie Lennox, Woman of Peace

annie-lennoxIt’s nice to know that while most ’80s pop stars are launching pathetic reunions or railing against social media, one perenially awesome new wave star is using her powers for good. A summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Berlin has conferred on Annie Lennox their yearly “Woman of Peace” honor. The former Eurythmics frontwoman has spent the past six years raising over $2 million for Sing, the charitable organization she founded to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, as well as provide treatment and testing, in South Africa.

The BBC reports that Lennox was thrilled to receive the award. “I honour all the women working around the globe to reduce the effects of this pandemics. This is for them, they truly deserve it,” she said, going on to describe the HIV pandemic as a “genocide.”

For those who want to pitch in with Lennox’s work, it looks like a good opportunity is coming up: The singer will release digital remix versions of her charity record (also titled “Sing”), featuring vocals by an all-star cast of lady musicians, from Madonna to Joss Stone to Martha Wainwright. Remixers include Moto Blanco, Dean Coleman, Harry “Choo Choo” Ramirez, and Lennox & Nitin Sawhney. You can download them December 1st, World AIDS Day.
