Julian Koster and His Singing Saw to Go A-Caroling in Your Hood

Julian_Koster

Cool news, Elephant 6 fans. Your boy Julian Koster has announced plans to embark on his second annual Christmas caroling tour. Our friends at Tiny Mix Tapes tell us that fans who invite Koster (of Neutral Milk Hotel, Music Tapes and Major Organ & the Adding Machine fame) and his singing saw into their homes will be treated to a free show. Wanna do it? Here’s how: Email musictapescaroling@gmail.com or snail-mail an honest-to-goodness letter to 450 N. Harris St. Athens, GA 30601 inviting Koster and co. to your place. (Merge asks that “due to time constraints, please send an email to let the ‘caroling ambassador’ know you are sending a letter.”) And, of course, you want to let the organizers know you phone number and email address. Also be sure to specify whether you’re open to having outside fans at your place for the show (apparently that will increase your chances of a visit), and if you can host Koster and his merry band of travelers.

And don’t worry if your house isn’t one of the lucky few chosen for caroling. You can surely join another gathering. Says Merge: “Once the limit on houses on a given night has been reached, the address of each house that will welcome guests will be distributed via email to all who email musictapescaroling@gmail.com and ask to attend. The addresses of the houses will not be posted online.”

Cities and dates for Julian Koster’s second annual singing saw Christmas tour:

December 7th, 8th, 9th: Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana & Lower Half of Illinois
December 10th, 11th, 12th: Chicago, Illinois, Michigan
December 13th, 14th, 15th: Ohio, Pittsburgh, Western NY
December 16th, 17th, 18th: Upstate NY, New England (CT, RI, VT etc)

While I wouldn’t want anybody wielding a saw to come to my house… I did buy a gorgeous singing saw Christmas CD from the ‘Saw Lady’ (http://www.sawlady.com/mycds.htm ) in the NYC subway. So, I guess I’ll check out this guy if he comes to somebody else in my neighborhood.
