Breaking Twitter News: Fall Out Boy Splits, New Belle and Sebastian Album?

wentzEmo kids will forever remember where they were the moment NME sent the following fateful tweet: “Fall Out Boy have split up, apparently.” While no story link followed, it seems the statement checks out. Contact Music is reporting that the band is no more — and that guyliner icon Pete Wentz blames himself for its dissolution. It seems he feels his personal life (Hi, Ashlee!) became a “hindrance” to the group’s progress. Here’s the quote Contact plucks from a Kerrang! magazine interview:

My biggest personal reason for taking a break is that I feel my name has become a hindrance for the band. (Frontman Patrick Stump) is a musical genius and it’s unfortunate that he gets reviewed based on whatever’s going on in my personal life or how my hair looks. I think the world needs a little less Pete Wentz. A lot of people think Fall Out Boy is me. But it’s the four of us. I want to f**king vomit when I read intros that say, ‘Pete Wentz: accidental internet poster boy.’ It makes me feel ugly.

Wow. I am no Pete Wentz fan, but dare I say… that sounds downright classy.

Meanwhile, in the indie-rock universe, Stereogum tweeted some altogether more exciting news. “New Belle & Sebastian on the horizon?” they wondered, linking to the band’s website. Sure enough, the page features a big photo of frontman/songwriter Stuart Murdoch writing in a notebook in front of big window, with the caption: “Here’s some evidence of new activity to reassure you kids who are fretting on the Q&A’s. Look behind Stuart… could that be another b&s record on the horizon?” Very interesting, guys. And very, very adorable.
