Who Got a (mtvU) Woodie?
Last night, MTV’s quirky little sister, mtvU, held its annual Woodie awards ceremony at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. As is the custom on this occasion, big stars mixed with indie sensations, in an event MTV itself has deemed “madcap.” To wit: While Diplo spun and Matt and Kim played “Lessons Learned” — “[f]lanked by eight backup singers who gradually stripped down to their underwear (in a nod to the Video Music Award-winning video for the same song)” — host Pete Wentz, of the recently shelved Fall Out Boy, clung to his red plastic beer cup. Zooey Deschanel presented an award, and the execrable Asher Roth accepted an award on behalf of the absent Green Day. Clipse, Death Cab for Cutie, The Dead Weather and Passion Pit all performed. And big winners Kings of Leon (pictured) weren’t even in the house to accept their honor. Sounds like an awkward night was had by all!
The awards show will air December 4th. But here’s a list of everyone who got a Woodie last night:
* Woodie of the Year: Kings of Leon
* Breaking Woodie: Never Shout Never
* Left Field Woodie: Tech N9ne
* Best Video Woodie: Matt and Kim – “Lessons Learned”
* Performing Woodie: Green Day
* Good Woodie: Jamie Tworkowski – To Write Love on Her Arms
