Is Colin Meloy vying to become the king of all media? Let’s review: There’s that little Decemberists band he has going; plus, he and his wife are working on some children’s books. And now, it looks like he and his fellow Decemberists are delving into animation for a new film project. Spinner reports that the band has transformed its most recent album, The Hazards of Love, into a full-length, animated movie! While fans got a first look at the film last month in Los Angeles, anyone can now check it out via iTunes.

Of course, the Decemberists didn’t do all the work themselves. They enlisted the help of filmmakers including Guilherme Marcondes, Julia Pott, Peter Sluszka and Santa Maria to realize their vision. How’d it work out? Well, it may just become the midnight stoner film of 2010. Check out the trailer below to see what I mean:
