Black Sheep MC Dres Is Back, Readies Two New Projects
I think Dres has been bumping that Aaliyah classic “Age Ain’t Nuthin But A Number” cause he’s not letting his closer proximity to AARP status slow him down one bit. I guess hip-hoppers are taking verbal Viagra these days and are subsequently lasting longer (pause) in the game. Back like he never left, Dres, one-half of the ’90s hip hop crew Black Sheep, is not really feeling the hip-hop retirement plan and is gearing up to release two new projects in the coming months.
According to AllHipHop, the homie Dres, who’s best known by most people for the 1991 hit “The Choice Is Yours” alongside then group member Mista Lawnge, will be putting out a brand new full-length, From The Black Pool Of Genius. Set to hit the streets in spring of 2010,the new disc will be the follow up to his 2006 effort, 8WM/Novakane. Always one to drop some knowledge, Dres says that while he’s the man behind the mic, this is an album that is strictly for the masses.
“I once heard a poet say that ‘hip hop backward is ‘pih poh (people)’- the way I see it, many artists are a lot more Hip-Hop than they ever realized,” he said. “I would dare to say that any artist over time, regardless of genre, that makes music for the ‘pih poh’… is Hip-Hop.”
Damn…that was deep. In case you got the fever for the flavor and just can’t wait until the calendar turns to get your hands on some new tunes from Dres, he’s got you covered. To set up the long-player, he’s also releasing From the Black Pool of Genius: The Prelude, a five-joint EP to keep the fans at bay until the main event, available on December 1st.
