Steven Tyler Only Taking Short Break from Aerosmith?

aerosmith

This weekend in the ongoing saga of Steven Tyler and Aerosmith maybe parting ways: While Joe Perry and Joey Kramer have claimed that Tyler wants to take two years off from the band, the frontman’s reps are now saying he’s only looking at a short break. It seems the singer is still recovering from the shoulder injury he got back in August, when he fell off the stage and onto some fans.

So, how is Tyler passing the time while he waits to be back in performance shape? According to his press people, “He’s concentrating on his book right now while his shoulder heals.” Which is to say, he’s writing his memoirs. Not a bad pursuit — especially considering that some of Tyler’s ’70s-era recollections are probably a hell of a lot more exciting than anything the band has put out in the last decade.

Of course, this is just more he-said/she-said from an obviously fractured band. Less than a week ago, Perry told the press that Tyler “has a tremendous history of drug abuse, and you have to be suspicious that this is something that is probably going on with him.” And last night, in an interview with MTV at the American Music Awards, the guitarist said that he and Tyler were nowhere near reaching a resolution and that “You guys know more about it than I do. Everything is through the press.” So, who, if anyone, are we supposed to believe?
