Welcome to the first all-lady edition of “Today in Covers.” (Okay, this is only the second time I’ve done this feature. But still. All ladies!) Our first entry comes from Lykke Li (pictured), who is offering a slow, haunting version of The Shirelles‘ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” Of course, the original was always fairly heart-wrenching, but Li’s take brings it to a whole other level of gorgeous and depressing. Now, you may need some cheering up after that ordeal. And there’s no better cure for the blues than the new video for Lavender Diamond’s cover of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” While Becky Stark’s serene rendition of the song has been around for a few years now, it’s just now getting the pop-psychedelic video it deserves. Stark wears and crazy pink princess gown, and Lisa Frank-esque stars, clouds and rainbows predominate. There’s also some outer space and retro video game kitsch thrown in for good measure. Directed by Peter Glantz, the video also features drawings by Jacob Ciocci and Tom McConnell, Ron Rege, Jr.
