Oh, For Fuck’s Sake: ‘Good Morning America’ Cancels Adam Lambert Performance

Now that 1,500 bigots have bitched to ABC about Adam Lambert’s hot, homoerotic performance on Sunday’s American Music Awards, the station has decided to call off the singer’s scheduled appearance on Good Morning America tomorrow. Never mind that people kiss on TV all the time (and no, it doesn’t matter that it was two dudes) and Madonna piloted Glambert’s S&M moves a quarter century ago… or that awards ceremony performances are designed to to make a big splash. The network tells Mediabistro that the decision was made “given his controversial live performance on the AMAs we were concerned about airing a similar concert so early in the morning.” ABC apparently assumes that Lambert won’t be able to control himself enough to avoid whipping out some dude’s dick (or whatever) at 7 a.m. Whatever. To me, it looks more like the network’s way of distancing itself from the big, gay incident lest middle America begin to see it as aiding and abetting the homosexual agenda.
Luckily, for Glambert fans, we’ve just gotten word that he’ll be playing CBS’ The Early Show instead. But the question remains: Why does our culture respond in such a viscerally negative way to any expression of gay male sexuality?

To keep it honest here, ABC is responding to the “time of the day” the show would air which is not unfair considering adult programming usually is scheduled after 8:00 p.m. on weeknights. Not to say that the religious right and their constant hypocrisy has infected ABC decision, quite the contrary. But in all fairness, he courts riskier performances and that isn’t necessarily the best programming for that first cup of over-priced Starbuck beans brewing.
