South by Southwest Announces 200+ Acts

Ah, South by Southwest. For one week in March, half the music industry travels to Austin, TX to get sloshed and watch bands while the other half stays home to hold down the fort and complain. Now, that last group (the one yours truly tends to find herself in) will really have something to complain about in 2010. SXSW has announced its initial showcase list, and it looks pretty damn sweet. Here are some highlights: Aa, Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paradise UFO, Apostle of Hustle, The Crystal Method, The dB’s, Deer Tick (pictured), Frightened Rabbit, Harlem, Robyn Hitchcock, Japandroids, Jookabox, Plants and Animals, Princeton, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, We Are Scientists and We Are Wolves. And that isn’t even counting the bands still to be announced… or the next big thing we haven’t even heard of yet.
Indie rock’s yearly spring break goes down March 17-21 throughout Austin. Anyone who wants to buy me a plane ticket will earn my undying appreciation and a glowing endorsement in whatever review I happen to write. Sweet deal, huh? Any takers out there?
