Holiday-Themed Time Waster of the Day: Sufjan Stevens Christmas Game

sufjan-stevens

It makes sense that indie rock’s most visible Christian is all about the holidays. A few years back, Sufjan Stevens released his very own Christmas album. And now his label, Asthmatic Kitty, has launched a special Christmas website. There, you can send Sufjan e-cards, print tree ornaments to color, watch videos and download free ringtones. But since we know first-hand how crappy it is to be working the day before Thanksgiving, when all of your co-workers have already lit out to the territories, we know that what you really want is a way to waste some time while visions of turkey — and sleeping past noon on a weekday — dance in your head. You may be at work today, but the last thing you want is to actually get anything done.

Lucky for you, Asthmatic Kitty has just the Sufjan game for you. Designer Tom DesLongchamp has cooked up a nostalgic, lo-fi adventure. First, you’ve got to strike a match and light up as many Christmas candles as possible. Then it’s time to dial up Grandma and engage in some sort of satisfactory holiday conversation. And don’t forget to shovel the driveway! Okay, so it’s not exactly the all-consuming RPG you’ve been playing on your home console. But it’s plenty charming and entertaining for a little web game.
