New Goldfrapp Record Due in March: You Can Dance To It!

A modern day shape-shifter, it’s anyone’s guess as to what form British pop duo Goldfrapp will take next. After two albums of dance-pop glory, the band released 2007’s Seventh Tree, a delicate freak-folk record that polarized the band’s devoted following. However, for those who preferred the more electronic edge of Black Cherry and Supernature, fear not, for the next Goldfrapp record may just be a return to form.
Slated for release on March 23nd via Mute, the new Goldfrapp record, Head First, will expand upon the band’s more pop leanings. According to a review on Pop Justice, lead single “Rocket” incorporates a more Italo-inspired vibe. The review also claims that the track, due to drop on March 9th, “sounds a bit like Van Halen vs Laura Branigan.” Though I don’t care much for the former, this still sounds extremely promising. Perhaps this change of heart has everything to do with the band’s collaborations with Christina Aguilera for her upcoming record. Whatever the case may be, I fully welcome the return of Goldfrapp’s synthier side with open arms.
