Indie Stars to Pay Tribute to Neil Young at Vancouver Olympics

Blame Canada… for producing one of the awesomeest and most influential rock icons of the 20th century. I’m talking, of course, about the inimitable (although Jimmy Fallon did a pretty good job imitating him…) Neil Young. And what better way to celebrate this national treasure than at Vancouver’s very own 2010 Winter Olympics? On February 18, artists including Broken Social Scene, Joan as Policewoman, Sun Kil Moon, Iron & Wine and Ron Sexsmith will pay tribute to the man who has spent nearly half a century rockin’ the free world, Billboard reports. To be held at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre, the show will find younger artists revisiting both Young’s hits and his quirkier, more obscure tracks.

Other music conoisseurs who find themselves in Vansterdam this winter will find many other exciting events happening in conjunction with the Olympics: Phoenix is set to perform January 22, Steve Earle will take the stage January 23, Feist will perform at the Orpheum on February 17 and Martha Wainwright will close out the line-up on March 18. Way to up the cultural ante, Canadians!
