RZA Offers Artistic Ultimatum With ‘Victory Or Death’
Looks like the RZA is about to get all artsy on us. After doing the music thing, the acting thing and even scoring films, working on the Kill Bill films with director Quentin Tarantino, the abbott of the Wu is about to get his Van Gogh on. To celebrate his 20th year in the music game, the RZA is switching it up and releasing a limited-edition fine art piece, Victory Or Death.
Releasing the work on January 1, 2010, the piece will only have a limited run of 360 prints on canvas to be made available to the public and will be in collaboration with When Art Imitates Life, a company aimed at assisting musicians into a transition into visual art. Owned by famed radio DJs Sway and King Tech along with Los Angeles-based creative house SceneFour, When Art Imitates Life (WAIL) will also be previewing the massive art piece before its actual realease on its website, www.whenartimitateslife.com
With both a creative and historical focus, the RZA is giving a few moments in time the remix treatment to create this project.
“It didn’t begin 20 years ago…more like 200 years ago. And when you see the piece we’re making right here, you’re going to know what I’m talking about. We’re about to rewrite and change history.,” he said via a statement. Now I can’t really call it on the art side for the RZA, as my eyes like yours are virgins to his work, but if it’s anything like his grimy-ass hypnotic beats, I think I might be copping one of these prints.
Peep the trailer for Victory Or Death below, and remember, Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothing to fuck with!
