Lookout! Ronnie James Dio Diagnosed With Stomach Cancer
Sad news to report. Metal legend Ronnie James Dio (Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, Heaven and Hell) has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Dio recently finished a massive worldwide tour supporting Heaven and Hell’s latest album, The Devil You Know, released in April, and was scheduled to tour Europe with Dio this month before taking ill. Dio’s tour has been canceled, and he’s been receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic.
Here is the latest update from Wendy Dio via RJD’s site:
“Ronnie has been diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer. We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.
Thanks to all the friends and fans around the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up.

As a longtime Dio fan cognizant of the singer’s advanced age, 67, I’ve feared this day would come. Though diminutive in stature, Dio is a tough, determined guy. Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery, and the strength to stand up and shout against cancer.

Here is an update from Wendy Dio on Ronnie’s battle with stomach cancer:
Well, it has been a very exhausting month – after all the neverending tests in Los Angeles, we flew to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, and as soon as we arrived, we got a call from the MD Anderson Hospital that they had an appointment for us with the doctor we originally wanted, so we then flew to Houston to the clinic, and of course MORE tests, but Ronnie finished receiving his first chemo treatment on Wednesday, and all is going very well.
I would like to thank Tony Martell from the T.J. Martell Foundation, Dr. Stuart Aaronson from Mount Sinai, Lindsay Brown and Mike Carden from Eagle Records, and our very own Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, for all your help in getting us into MD Anderson, and also our friends Geezer and Gloria Butler, who flew to Houston to be with Ronnie while he had his chemo.
Ronnie and I are totally overwhelmed by the amount of well wishes that we have received from friends and fans – we are reading them all. Some make us laugh, some make us cry, but all of them are so filled with love that it gives us so much support and makes Ronnie even more determined to fight this battle and win. Thank you all for the positive energy and prayers.

Get well soon Ronnie. Met you in Ottawa backstage in 2007 and is still the best moment I ever had in my life. Horns Up and Wendy, be strong.

Ronnie, I grew up listening to your songs…..you are my Icon, I cant accept what the heck I am reading about you…..I pray to Almighty for your quick recovery and back to the stage once again, in front of thousands of fans chanting your name – where you belong. God bless you Dio. I love you.

Everyone, please pray for Ronnie…..we don’t wanna lose him…Please please please pray for Ronnie James Dio….pray everywhere, in Mosques, in Churches, in Temples, in Pagodas – everywhere…..let the Almighty hear that he has got millions of fans wanting to keep him alive…..please pray for him.
