Statik Selektah – ‘The Pre-Game’ EP

Statik SelektahNo one can say that this dude is a slacker. Possibly the hardest working DJ/producer on the rap underground, Statik Selektah is back once again to show the world his grind with his latest offering, The Pre-Game EP. No tailgating here, but as the title may suggest, this appetizer is built to tide fans over until he drops his third full-length album, 100 Proof. Judging by the sound of things on this teaser EP, this may just be a meal in itself. The adrenaline-fueled production and perfectly placed cuts paired with the high octane delivery of the NYG’z makes “Other Than That” a standout track on this nine-track set. Talib Kewli stops by for his usual high standard of lyrical exercise on “I’m Wit It (Showoff Remix)” and underground femcee Bahamadia blesses “Do What I Believe” with her trademark sedated verses that gel perfectly with the laid-back sonic background. A well-rounded effort, The Pre-Game EP is a solid disc from one of the game’s most consistent players. Chalk up another win for Statik with this one.
