Scouting Report: Turn the Lights Out is the third go-around for the Chicago indie-garage act, but their first on Matador. Two-guitar / bass / drums / reverb / sunglasses sorta stuff, if you are not familiar (i'm a recent convert). Stalkers are a Brooklyn garage-rock quintet – both genuinely poppy and genuinely frightening – that's already making a big splash in the UK. A recent glowing write-up in NME has propelled them into slots at Leeds and Reading Festivals next week (while they play the Annex stateside). Best of all, Ponys and Stalkers really do sound like softball team names, don't they.

Up first: Turn the Lights Out

1. Double Vision – HOME RUN, one in. Massive. That was some Rickey Henderson sh*t right there.
2. Everyday Weapon – HIT, one on
3. Small Talk – BALL, 1-0
4. Turn the Lights Out – BALL, 2-0
5. 1209 Seminary – HIT, two on
6. Shine – STRIKE, 0-1
7. Kingdom Of Hearts – BALL, 1-1
8. Poser Psychotic – HIT, one in, two on. "Sonic Youth-y!"
9. Exile on My Street – BALL, 1-0
10. Harakiri – STRIKE, 1-1
11. Maybe I'll Try – BALL, 2-1
12. Pickpocket Song – STRIKE, inning over

Starts strong, then coasts. Cool sounding throughout. For the Ponys, 2 runs on 4 hits, none left on.

Up next: Yesterday Is No Tomorrow
1. Yesterday Is No Tomorrow – BALL, 1-0
2. Sun's Coming Up – STRIKE, 1-1
3. Circus Baby – HIT, one on. Yeah, so they rhyme "baby" and "maybe." It's a good song.
4. I'm Watching You – BALL, 1-0
5. Let's Get It Together – STRIKE, 1-1. Yikes. Andrew W.K. wants his beer commercial back.
6. Feeling Alright – BALL, 2-1.
7. I Couldn't Wait To Get Home – BALL, 3-1. That was an unnecessary key-change away from being a double. And i like key changes.
8. How Can I Live Today – HIT, two on.
9. Blame Game – STRIKE, 0-1
10. Silver Blood – HIT, one in, two on.
11. Out in the Rain – BALL, inning over

Yes, it's dopey. Yes, it's catchy. For Stalkers, 1 run on 3 hits, none left on.

Your final today: Ponys 2, Stalkers 1. Stay tuned for more Indie Rock Baseball.
