Long Island City Gets A New Venue

For most people, Queens is this mystery borough that might have the best Chinese food in the city, but since it’s way out on like the last stop of the 7 train, you’ve never been. However, some people actually like it there and don’t think people should have to leave, not even to catch a show at their favorite mid-sized venue.A few days ago the Daily News ran a story about two such men, named Robert Prichard and Michael Waldman, who plan to open a self-described“rock ‘n roll dinner theater” in Long Island City:
The Queens bridge Theater, slated to open in October, will be the first of its kind in the borough, where locals can dance, dine and watch live performances, all in one place. The Queens bridge, which will occupy two floors of a five-story warehouse on 10th St. at 37th Ave. in Long Island City, was modeled after popular Manhattan nightclubs such as the Bowery Ballroom and the Mercury Lounge."But it won't be as pricey," said co-owner Robert Prichard, who is partnering with developer Michael Waldman on the project.
Will lower prices be enough to lure fans all the way out to Queens? Will people buy tickets for a third Black Lips show, after they've already seem them at Bowery and the Music Hall of Williamsburg? Probably not, but the venue could certainly be a hit locally, especially if they make good on the promise of food. If I'm going all the way out there, I'm expecting some good eats.

Even the address is scary and Queens-like: 10th street and 37th Avenue! It's like something out of the ROYAL TENENBAUMS.
