Pitchfork Music Fest is Back!—Updated

It’s that time again. Well, not yet, but at least it’s time to announce that it’s that time again. With all of the spring and summer music festivals gearing up for the warmer months, Pitchfork is also throwing its hat in the ring and announcing dates for this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival.

Set to take place for the fifth year, again in Chicago’s Union Park, the weekend of music will commence this year from Friday, July 16 to Sunday, July 18. The action will take place on three separate stages and, though the official list of bands participating aren’t set to be released until this Friday, word is that reunited indie-rock outfit Pavement have been recruited to headline the tournament of tunes, according to Consequence Of Sound. The Stockton, CA-based lo-fi rockers, who called it quits in 1999, have recently kissed and made up and will be a nice blast from the past for festivalers (is that a real word? My spell check says yes, I say maybe).

With a pretty impressive roster of former acts, Pitchfork’s weekend romps have featured such bands as Animal Collective, Girl Talk, Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird, Owen Pallett, The National, The Antlers, Yeasayer, The Flaming Lips and others in past years.

For those whose allowances have their pockets looking like sumo wrestlers, or for those who just want to beat the crowd and get a jump on grabbing spots, tickets are also set to go on sale this Friday as well. One-day stubs will run you $40, while the bargain hunter of a music fan may op for the three-day pass, which is going for $90. Fans can go to the festival’s site, for more info.
