Bad Lieutenant Busts Into America: Coachella and U.S. Tour
All the diehard New Order fans who have spent the last several years in a state of constant candlelight vigil awaiting another album (advice: Don’t hold your breath) were given a new reason to get up in the morning when New Order frontman Bernard Sumner debuted his new band, Bad Lieutenant, who released their debut album, Never Cry Another Tear, last October. Those faithful followers — not to mention the rest of the world at large — must have done a double take upon first hearing, as the album leaves the electro-dance New Order sound behind in favor of peppy, guitar-based pop tunes, but tracks like the single “Sink Or Swim” proved so damn infectious that no one was left wanting.
Now, Sumner has announced plans to bring Bad Lieutenant to the States, so Americans can get a taste of the band’s poppy power close up and in person. After making the rounds in the U.K., Sumner and company will be headed over the big pond for a brief string of dates in April that will include an appearance at uberfest Coachella on the 17th. Sumner’s old New Order drumming buddy Stephen Morris will be part of the band’s lineup too, so it’s the closest thing to the old N.O. you’re likely to see again in your lifetime.
