Taking up the expression “strike up the band” literally, New Orleans rapper K. Gates is waving the flag for his beloved Saints with what is being dubbed the fight song for the triumphant Super Bowl champs — the single “Black & Gold (Who Dat!!!)”. In true Big Easy big-band fashion, Gates rolls out the trumpets, trombones, drums and the rest of the marching band to back up his super fan lyrics. The catchy, all ages theme song which samples The Ying Yang Twins’ “Halftime (Stand Up & Get Crunk)” has been hotter than gumbo down at the bottom of the boot state. Giving the city a sonic battle cry to rally around, the jazzy, up-tempo tune incorporates the famous line “Who dat said they gon beat them Saints,” which has been echoed around the country since the team got the bid to the big game. Name dropping many of the key players for the Saints and with the team’s support of the record, “Black & Gold (Who Dat!!!)” will surely be ringing through the streets of not just New Orleans, but through the speakers of fans everywhere.
