Video: Against Me! with Tegan

tomgabel.jpgMy favorite part about this video for "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart" is a fan comment from yesterday:

man...if tegan weren't gay i'd say her and tom would make an amazing couple
BUT its ok, I wouldn't change anything about tegan, she's perfect anyway =)

That should clear up any questions you had regarding the mean age of the average Against Me! fan, as well as providing an insight into just what the band's Philadelphia appearance tonight at the Electric Factory will probably be like. The bright and shiny doe eyes will be conscript as singer/songwriter Tom Gabel does what he's been doing since he was about seventeen years old: wiling out about being old and jaded and over punk rock. Sure, the dirt-folk stomp of yesteryear is sort of over and the band actually has the major label support that used to be a gag, but it's a shtick that has remained remarkably untouched. Against Me! sell the death of naivite to the still chronically naive.

Why mess with a formula that works? Gabel has pulled off songwriting his peers only wish they could approximate, even if most of his peers have sort of peetered off of punk rock. Performing tonight in Philly with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Against Me! will once against set out to prove the virtues of the (while tired) tried and true. "Born on the FM Waves of the Heart" is their most recent video from 2007's New Wave, featuring Tegan Quinn of Tegan and Sara fame.
