AC/DC and Wal-Mart Do Manhattan
Times Square was once home to hookers, raincoat-clad peep-show connoisseurs, and any kind of chemical pick-me-up your dirty little heart desired. This week, a bunch of scoundrels who go by AC/DC will be taking over. All right! That brings you back, doesn't it? Yeah, except for the fact that they will also be joined by Wal-Mart. Doesn't get less "fuck the system" than that. The store has been given exclusive rights to to hawk AC/DC's latest album, Black Ice and will be sold at Wal-Mart's temporary shop in Times Square. It all kicks off this Saturday when Wal-Mart and MTV unveil the “AC/DC Rock Band store” and sell the first copies of the new album. You'll also be able to check out Wal-Mart's other exclusive offering, video game AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack.
But that's not all! The Black Ice Truck will be trolling the streets of Manhattan for a week in advance, inviting fans to listen to the new album. Great. The corporate equivalent to my neighborhood ice cream truck, and it doesn't even have Astro Pops.
Black Ice will be officially available on October 20, but don't try to buy it on iTunes.
