Gabriel Mann releases Tall Buildings
Although his name may be unfamiliar, you've likely heard piano-based songwriter Gabriel Mann at some point. His music has graced the soundtracks of TV shows like Arrested Development, and he's toured with artists like Alanis Moorisette.
This week, Mann releases his fourth studio full length, Tall Buildings on his own label, Parkhill Records. The 12 song album features textured, multi-layered instrumentals, which lay foundation for Mann to unleash his trained vocals, and commanding piano abilities. Aiming for diversity, Tall Buildings gives listeners a healthy dose of mellow ballads ("Eight Feet Tall") and pulsating toe-tappers ("Ride"). The overall effort boasts a somewhat cinematic feel, showcasing Mann's background in film scoring. For me, the standout song was title track, "Shadows of Tall Buildings," a powerful and emotional ode to New York City.
Gabriel Mann will perform Tall Buildings in its entirety on Saturday (9/8) at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles.
