Video: Flight of the Conchords – “Carol Brown”
This season of Flight of the Conchords is seriously cracking me up. My friend Matt says it’s because they’re writing the songs specifically for the stories in each episode (as apposed to season one, where they used old songs and sandwiched them in where they could), but whatever the reason, the songs in FotC Season Two are not just funny, but well written too; these are good songs that stand on their own quality, and practically make me want to buy an album, or catch them live or something.
Last Sunday’s episode was no exception, in fact, it set the bar even higher. I couldn’t get this song out of my head for hours after I first saw it, so I had to watch it a second time on demand. And you know what I discovered: Michael Gondry directed this episode. How much sense does that make? Once I saw those editing-machine-guitars, I should have known. Gondry gravitates towards sentimental stories about relationships (Eternal Sunshine, Science of Sleep), so I imagine he had a good time with this one. Now, if they could get Woody Allen to direct an episode about the guys’ failed relationships with women I’d be prepared to change the “favoriteTV shows” section of my Facebook profile from Lost to Flight of the Conchords.
