Sir Macca Hints Lost Beatles Track May See Light of Day
Have you ever heard The Beatles‘ “Carnival of Light?” Of course you haven’t. The 14-minute experimental track was recorded in 1967 and subsequently shelved because it was too avant-garde. Since then, it has remained the Liverpudlians’ famous “lost” track and has never been released. Forty years later, Paul McCartney is hinting that the track might finally see an official release, though he’d have to get permission from drummer Ringo Starr (who should have plenty of free time now that he’s not answering fan mail), John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono, and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison. Sir Macca confirmed to The Observer that he still holds the copyright to the song and “the time has come for it to get its moment.” The improvised work features distorted electric guitars, discordant sound effects, a church organ and gargling interspersed with McCartney and John Lennon shouting random phrases like “Barcelona” and “Are you all right?” Every UK artist strives for a number one song at Christmas. Might this song get a stealth holiday release?
