MP3: Caw! Caw! – Organisms

I’m assuming that Chicago’s Caw! Caw! derived their band name from a Simpsons quote — Marge Simpson had a rough day, and is lying in bed with Homer, asking her husband to be quiet so she can go to sleep. Homer replies “Oh, of course, my sweet. I’ll just make some soothing ocean sounds for you: woosh, splash, CAW! CAW!” Hilarious. Back to the band.

Above, you can download Caw! Caw!’s new single “Organism,” an early taste of their upcoming EP, Waiting Outside which hits shelves September 23rd. The band’s musical history is somewhat implied through the style of the tune, which combines their energetic punk roots with a new found appreciation for jangly indie pop — they straddle the line between bands like Vampire Weekend and Fall Out Boy. The vocals may be androgenous (the singer is male), but I’ll still give these guys an enthusiastic thumbs up.
