‘Parks And Recreation’ Almost Entered The 36 Chambers
Can it be that it could have all been so simple? I’m sure you’ve seen NBC’s hit comedy Parks And Recreation with its lovable comedic cast of misfits doing lovable comedic things. And even though the show has its share of characters that shine in their own way, none of them know vital skills like the mystery of chessboxing or own essential props like fang-shaped gold teeth. Jon Spencer Demonstrates the Theremin
While his newest project Heavy Trash is touring the shit out of Europe right now, Jon Spencer is no doubt delivering rock ‘n’ roll as well as molesting his theremin in front of an unsuspecting international audience. One of the great underappreciated guiding lights in American underground music, Spencer was the insulting frontman for Pussy Galore and later the professional enthusiast of Blues Explosion. He deconstructed rock ‘n’ roll revivalism so that a decade later other more popular acts had something to put back together. And he started shit with Dischord. If I was being serious, I’d post this Scorcese-directed clip of the maestro performing an unchecked, unstoppable version of “Devil Got My Woman” from the director’s Soul of a Man. But I just can’t pass up the opportunity to share this clip of Mr. Spencer “demonstrating” the theremin. ‘Cause for all his shake and swagger, Spencer endlessly reminds us that the rock ‘n’ roll should probably be fun.
